Wow, Ted, you’re painting a compelling picture. Massive immigration is probably an index of change - people are bringing their own ideas, emotions, culture and crime - with the result the remainder of society changes too. During good economical years it may ad strength. But rather not in the current setting. It makes me think of the Roman Empire, that, weakened from centuries of internal divisions, defilement and bickering, crumbled under the onslaught of militant immigrants.
